I have the same person as often as possible sit for my gliders when I am away for one night or longer.
I have copied the list of instructions 100 times by now and keep telling myself that I'll put together a list.
I just found this board and it's a great idea.
I'll be back around to help here.
I am willing to participate in a list of glider-sitter-safety and comfort tips.
Sound good?
Anyone else weant to help?

Hi and welcome.
Yes, please do list what you can think of for the glider sitter. We are going to work on a general form that can be printed off and used.
Some of the things about the gliders that need to be included are
names
ages
special likes or dislikes
diet
any special need such as daily meds
normal vets contact info incase a consult is needed
Info about the owners
names
contact numbers
itenirary
emergency contact numbers
there also needs to be a release of liability both for the owners and the sitters.
Also someplace for the sitter to list what vet will be used incase of an emergency etc. and emergency contact info that can be provided to the owners incase something along the way on their trip happens and the sitter can not be reached.
Please feel free to add to the list. Once we have everything we can think of, we'll get it into a form and make a sticky out of it. |

It's good to know this is in motion.
My intention was exactly what you say--to provide a list that can be personalized for each person/glider/sitter.
I'll post it here when I'm done.
Or would you rather me email it to you to look over?
I'll be as chick as I can, what with everything else in life.
thanks for providing this place.

Hi,
I feel like a dingleberry!
I couldn't find my way back to the forum, and then lost touch with the computer for a while.
It was a needed break, but here I am.
I had offered to post a list of glider-sitter preparations.
I'm SO sorry it took so long!
here is the list I give my glider sitter. (and she comes highly recommended if anyone in my area needs to call her)
1. Diet: I list the full menu, preparation, quanities and specific choices I want given on which nights (I keep a list so that when she calls we can compare notes on which cage ate how much of which item).
2.Organization of cages: Usually, I prepare the plates--yes every single one of them, 20+cages--and label them with cage number. I place each nights' dish, labeled with cage number into a green plastic bag (that's all 20+ dishes for the night) and I put that bag in the freezer.
Repeat for as many nights I'll be gone.
Each entire nights' dishes goes in it's own bag, labeled for the night, and is placed in the freezer.
My sitter taked out the next nights' food and puts it in the fridge so it's at the right temperature for feeding the next night.
*I also suggest putting cage number- tags on each cage with the names of each glider and also how many gliders(male/female)
This is helpful in case any stressful situation occurs, the sitter can call you and simply read off the tag:"cage number 5, they didn't eat much, the male is running around and the 2 girls are sleeping" or whatever the sitter needs to say.
3. Contacts: I write the numbers of all vets (plus their cell and emergency numbers)
I write the names of glider-aware friends and their numbers and email addresses.
I also leave my computer on. I write a list of glider forums the sitter can log onto in the unlikely case I don't pick up the phone.
4. "protocol" The sitter calls me from my house or immediately upon leaving my house, reports who ate what, who did what, etc.
5. If you can afford it, 2 visits a day are ideal.
If that is prohibitive, I suggest either early am visits when the gliders are still awake (and put frozen plates directly into the cages so they defrost in time for dinner), or an evening visit so that gliders are already up.
6. I tell my sitter never to reach into a cage unless she has me on the phone and I tell her to.
Ok, I think that's all of my glider sitter protocol.
Any additions?
